There’s just something about bold African prints and it remains the only colour in my wardrobe. Some time ago, I was on a search for a local designer who supplied fabric, and a friend referred me to Haute Afrika. I jumped at the opportunity to work with Grace the founder, as the presentation of craftsmanship was extremely attractive. The availability of quality materials also made conceptualising custom outfits over the years a breeze.

On a random weekend, I happened to upload a Facebook post about being at an event, then Duma Mahlangu reached out, told me about his clothing brand named ‘Chepa’ which is a South African Nguni slang word meaning stylish. He then continued to ask if I would make time to visit his stall and I agreed to do just that. Boy, was I pleased. This space stood out for me, because of its colourful presence, made up of a huge white standing mirror, print jackets and shoes galore. Introduced myself and tried on some of the items on display. The fit and fabric options sealed the deal. The rest is history!

I was undeniably attracted to their customised denim jackets with iconic illustrations, so I ordered me some. Started my journey to sheer exclusivity by choosing Missy Elliot and Lauryn Hill artwork. Once that was done, vintage denim jackets, badges and print fabric swatches were sourced for me. After many reverts, I finally received my goods. Really appreciate having been involved in every step of the process. Excited to see how they’ll continue to build on their unique brand.
